In addition to the Capitol Quarter townhome development, there are other additional blocks that are slated for revitalization as part of the Capper Hope VI project. The old Capper Seniors building at 7th and M was torn down in 2007, and in 2014 is being replaced with the Lofts at Capitol Quarter. Along the three blocks between 2nd and 3rd and M and I (facing the Washington Canal Park, old Capper buildings will be replaced with three apartment buildings totalling 550 units (both market-rate and low-income). Additionally under the Capper Hope VI, the demolished DPW trash transfer station at New Jersey and K will be replaced with a 322-unit apartment building.

The same view, more than two years later; demolition of all Capper buildings was finally completed in late 2007. The three cleared blocks closest to the camera are now surface public parking lots, but eventually will be home to the three new apartment buildings; the other cleared blocks behind them are where the Capitol Quarter mixed-income townhouse development is being built. The Canal Park will replace the school bus lots in the foreground. (6/24/08)

The easternmost portion of the Capper/Carrollsburg footprint reaches to 7th Street; for many years, the old Capper Seniors building stood there. (11/1/07)

In late December 2006, demolition moved to the final block of Capper residences, bounded by 2nd, 3rd, K, and I. This is the northwest corner of 3rd and K, in May 2006. (05/06)

In November 2006, demolition began on the final two blocks of Capper/Carrollsburg buildings, between 2nd and 3rd streets. Here is the southwest corner of 3rd and K, in August 2005. (08/05)

August 3, 2008 - The same location, in August 2008. The Capper buildings on this block were demolished in January 2005, and the DOT HQ has risen at the end of 2nd Street, across M Street. The southern portion of this block will be home to the 250 M Street office building.
The trash transfer lot fronted New Jersey Avenue, meaning that eventually this important location less than a half-mile from the Capitol will no longer be home to industrial uses, but instead more residents, of all income levels. (09/06)
